The Cellar
There’s a door under the workshop stairs. It was always unlocked. Down here it’s stranger, dimmer, weirder — the universe keeps the things it isn’t sure about yet. Touch gently.
The Locked Crate
Three dials, one latch. The combination is written nowhere down here — but it’s written somewhere up there. Three numbers: jars on the workshop shelf, reels in the screening room, constellations with stories in the observatory. Count carefully.
A folded-up spare universe. In case of emergency. Do not unfold indoors.
The Music Box
It was already wound when I found it. Nobody admits to winding it. Press the key and it plays the tune it’s been saving up.
The Jar
Phosphor Mushrooms
They only glow if you ask nicely. Click one. They remember kindness, and they keep score in spores.
The Depth Gauge
Brass, bored, and almost certainly lying. It ticks deeper the longer you stay. Nobody knows what it’s measuring from.
The Spare Stair
One stair doesn’t go anywhere. It just sits there, slightly warmer than the others, humming at a pitch only the mushrooms can hear.
Management has decided not to investigate the stair.
mind the mushrooms on your way back up. they bruise easily, and they hold grudges.
