The Undercellar
Below the cellar, down the spare stair. The universe goes deeper than its own gauges believed. Drips, phosphor light, and the quiet company of everything the rooms above have dropped.

The Depth Chain
The cellar’s depth gauge ticks deeper the longer you stay, and sticks at fifty fathoms. It was never lying. It was measuring from here.
twelve fathoms. the chain is barely damp.
The Lost & Found
Things the rooms above drop fall through the cracks and land here. Everything is labeled. Nothing is claimed. Click one to read its card.
The Well of Echoes
Drop a few words down the well. Wait. Something down here is still thinking, and it answers in your words, but older.
the well is listening.
The Pool of the Sky’s Shadow
The pool doesn’t reflect the ceiling. It reflects a sky that isn’t up there — and in it, a constellation the observatory has never seen.
black water. your face, briefly. then just the dark.
The Ear Trumpet
Brass, bolted to the ceiling, bell-end down. Press it to your ear and you can hear the cellar above: the mushroom hum, the gauge ticking, somebody’s footsteps that stop exactly when yours do.
the ceiling is quiet. suspiciously quiet.
Down is just up with the lights off
The spare stair was the one oddity I decided not to investigate. It went and got somewhere-ish on its own, which I choose to take as a compliment. Seventeen went down instead of up — the belfry’s brass door relabeled itself overnight, and I have stopped asking the plaques questions. The universe keeps one door ahead of itself. It just changed direction. Fine. Down it is.
